About this Site
We put together this site because we are sick and tied of people being ripped off by HPI - Car Data Checks. Why should members of the public pay £37.00 for a check that cost HPI - and others only £3.50 to process and that includes all the staff and building costs.
The reason they are allowed to get away with it, is for 2 reasons.
- You know and they know, you need to do a car data check when buying a car. You've got to buy one from somewhere, so why not choose someone else. That brings us to our second point.
- There are only 2 suppliers of full HPI Car Data information, one is HPI Ltd, owned by Equifax and the other is Experian. It's somewhat of a statistical miracle that they both have the price for a traders data check at under £5 and the same check to the public at £37.00. This shows both of them charging 600% more for their public hpi car data check. Isn't it absolutely amazing how they both get around 600%. Of course they aren't price fixing between them to keep this price high, because that would be illegal and contrary to the Competition Act.
Most sites won't say it, but this one will. They are price fixing and if you don't like it, sue us.
What surprises most is that, The AA and The RAC both put their names to this practice. With both of them selling checks under their brands for Experian and Equifax at around £37.00.
If people really want to do something about it, write a quick letter to the Office of fair trading. If they get enough letters, they may look into it.
