Details to Check on a Car Data Report
The first two items that you need to check on a car are,
- Outstanding Finance
- Stolen vehicle alert
If any of these two show up on a report, it will mean that no matter how much money you pay for the car, you won't own it. It also doesn't matter what paperwork you have or proof of payment, the car will more than likely be taken from you by the correct owner if anyone checks it later on. Should you be involved in an accident, the insurance company won't pay you a penny and they will instead pay the legal owner.
The next most important items to check are,
- Previous Insurance Claims
- Mileage discrepancies
These could give indications of a fault that might progress into a safety issue. On many occasions when the mileage has been altered, the steering wheel has been removed to access the vehicles clocks. A lot of times the steering wheel won't have been placed back correctly and has in the past, become detached whilst the car is in motion.
The other things to look out for on a car data check are,
- The vehicles colour matches the colour on the V5 and the data check's results.
- The VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) on the vehicle matches the VIN on the data check's results and the V5. Also make sure that the VIN on the car looks authentic and has not been tampered with in any way.
